School Counselors are now included in the group of mental health
volunteers.  Check with your local Red Cross

Red Cross Recruiting Disaster Mental Health Workers in
Preparation for Hurricane Gustov

T
he Red Cross is recruiting for Disaster Mental Health (DMH) workers in
preparation for Hurricane Gustov and is asking for registered and non-
registered Disaster Mental Health-eligible volunteers to contact their local
chapter if they are available to deploy to the gulf states. Use the chapter
locator on
www.redcross.org to find the closest Red Cross chapter.
People who haven't received the Red Cross Foundations of Disaster
Mental Health training may have to wait to deploy until a training can be
scheduled (or until a decision is made to do trainings at a staging site or
at the relief operation). In either case, those interested should contact
their chapter to begin the process of registering as a Red Cross
volunteer. Those of you who are already registered as Red Cross DMH
workers, please contact your chapter to update your availability in DSHR
(the Red Cross national database system) as this will facilitate your
deployment. Also, if you’re not able to deploy until a later date, updating
your availability in DSHR will expedite a later deployment as well.
